Parenting Pages on Facebook

Categories

There are so many Facebook pages dedicated to parenting advice. Here are some of our favourites.

If you are wondering who to follow on Facebook for parenting information and advice, I have a couple of ideas for you!

I want to start by saying that every parent is different, every child is different, and the needs of every family are different.  You may feel varying levels of agreement with posts on the same page; I think we are all like that!

These suggestions are meant to provide information about parenting resources and programs, but they may not all appeal to you.  Please take the ones that work best for your family and ignore the rest.

Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place

First off, I hope you will follow MFF.  This is where you will find information about our parenting programs, licensed programs, and notifications about new “Parenting in Muskoka” blog posts.  We also share content from leading parenting experts and agencies that are providing programs that may be of interest.

Strong Minds Strong Kids Psychology Canada

This is the branch of the Psychology Foundation of Canada that supports mental health well-being in children and youth.  Here you will find information on stress management for adults and children, development, play, etc…all those topics that help form resilient families.  You will also find some information about programs like Make the Connection, Kids Have Stress Too!  and Stress Lessons; all of which are administered through this organization.

EarlyON

EarlyON centres throughout the province of Ontario, including EarlyON Muskoka, have Facebook pages that both inform parents about their programming, and offer positive parenting information.  If you are looking for online Triple P training the EarlyON Child and Family Centre – Simcoe North offers Seminars and Discussion Groups.

Healthy Families Hamilton

This page is curated by the Health Unit in Hamilton and has a lot of great information on both pregnancy and parenting.  Content is created by professionals, both Registered Nurses and Registered Dietitians, and often encourages discussion.

Parenting Experts

All of the following experts have books, workshops and/or courses available for purchase.  In addition, they also have a lot of free content that can be accessed through Facebook, and in many cases, through websites and/or newsletters as well.

  • Alyson Schafer is an author and has regular posts and Facebook Live meetings about parenting through different life stages and current events.  She is a regular expert on Canadian news and talk shows, and co-host of The Parenting Show on Rogers cable.  Her positive and sense of humour make her teachings easy to follow and enjoy.
  • Look with Love – Bridgett Miller posts beautiful parenting intentions that give parents “developmental insight and understanding into children’s behaviour seen through the eyes of love”.
  • Janet Lansbury’s posts support her belief that “Children are born competent whole people. Let trust and belief in your babies guide your parenting.”  I really like both the content of her posts and the rich discussions that often follow.  She really engages with her audience.
  • Laura Markham is the author of Aha Parenting! You may want to subscribe to her newsletter in addition to following her page.
Muskoka Community Agencies

These agencies regularly post information about the programming that they offer:
