Protocol For The Use And Storage Of Cleaning And Disinfecting Products – September 2020

From this point forward, only cleaning and disinfecting products approved by Muskoka Family Focus shall be used by our staff in all programs. MSDS/SDS sheets will be provided for the 6 approved products (with your initial supply only) and MUST be maintained in accordance with your Supervisors instructions. Preference is for OEYC’s to keep them in the Green Relief Binder, school age programs to keep them in their Licensing Bins and ELCC’s please keep in your MSDS/SDS/disinfecting binders.

 

  • APPROVED PRODUCTS:
    • GENERAL PURPOSE CLEANING BY MFF STAFF
      • General day-to-day cleaning of walls, floors and spills etc.
        • Product supplied through MFF. Use ALL PURPOSE CLEANER manufactured by Rochester Midland – mixed at program. Available at Admin Office or ELCC’s
        • Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when handling and mixing product. Product mixes to a green colour (1:32 dilution ratio).
        • Product is provided in spray bottles, clearly labelled with the product information, the expiry date and the program name.
      • Heavily Soiled or Heavy Duty Cleaning
        • Product supplied through MFF. Currently using CHAMP manufactured by Glen Martin Ltd. – mixed at program. Available at Admin Office or ELCC’s.
        • Product needs to be diluted in a bucket of water as per manufacturer’s instruction. Goggles and gloves are recommended and are available for both mixing and use of product.
        • Surfaces must be rinsed after using Champ.
    • DISINFECTING
      • General every day disinfecting:
        • Product supplied through MFF. Use OXIVIR Tb manufactured by Diversey which comes premixed and available through ELCC’s or MFF. *Entire surface must be wet. This product a one minute contact/kill time and do NOT require a rinse for non-food contact surface, therefore making them efficient to use on surfaces for diapering and toileting. They can also be used when time is limited on any other surface or toy that does not go into a child’s mouth when time prevents the use of the VIROX 5 product. Food contact surfaces or items that might go into a child’s mouth must be rinsed with water after it is disinfected with the OXIVIR Tb wipe.
        • Product supplied by MFF for diaper change table or mat is OXIVIR Tb wipes manufactured by Diversey. *If wipe continues to be wet, it may be used on multiple surfaces. The wipes have a one minute contact/kill time and do NOT require a rinse for non-food contact surface, therefore making them efficient to use on surfaces for diapering and toileting. They can also be used when time is limited on any other surface or toy that does not go into a child’s mouth when time prevents the use of the VIROX 5 product. Food contact surfaces or items that might go into a child’s mouth must be rinsed with water after it is disinfected with the OXIVIR Tb wipe.
        • If the change table or surface is soiled, it should first be cleaned with a wipe to remove faeces and then disinfected using a new OXIVIR Tb wipe.
        • OXIVIR pre-mixed spray manufactured by Diversey has a one minute kill time, allow to remain wet for one minute and requires a rinse.
        • Product supplied through MFF. Use VIROX 5 is a concentrate form and mixes clear (no colour at a 1:16 dilution ratio – 1 litre of water:64 ml or 1/3 cup of concentrate) and is provided in spray bottles, clearly labelled with the product information, the expiry date and the program name. *Entire surface must be wet. This product has a 5 minute kill time and does NOT require a rinse which makes it efficient for use on tables, chairs and toys that do not go into the children’s mouth once dried; anywhere or on anything where the children’s hands will come into contact with the surface or toy that isn’t dry must be rinsed after the 5 minute kill time.
        • VIROX 5 once diluted and placed in spray bottle has a 28 day expiry date. Always place new expiry date after making a new batch. Never top up disinfectant and always give spray bottle a rinse before making a new batch.
        • Test strips are available and should be used daily to monitor the strength of the product and results recorded and placed in disinfecting binder.
        • Always rinse off VIROX 5 from food contact surfaces and toys that may go into a child’s mouth.
      • Disinfecting of bodily fluid spills or in an “Outbreak” situation:
        • Product supplied through MFF. Currently using VIROX 5 manufactured by Diversey – comes premixed or can be mixed (1:16 dilution ratio –1 litre of water:64 ml or 1/3 cup of concentrate) and available through ELCC’s or MFF
        • Product is a clear liquid and is provided in spray bottles, clearly labelled with the product information, expiry date and the program name.
        • Product should be sprayed on surfaces, change tables and toys and left to air dry whenever possible.
        • ALWAYS USE THIS PRODUCT TO DISINFECT ANY SPILLS OF FECES, VOMIT, BLOOD, URINE, ETC. Remove excess blood and fluids with paper towels and clean area first by applying diluted (1:16) solution to surface, soak 30 seconds and wipe dry. Disinfect contaminated area by applying diluted (1:16) solution to surface; allow to remain wet for 5 minutes. Wipe surface dry or rinse. *WEAR GLOVES FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION. If you think there is the possibility that there is going to be contact with your skin, eyes or clothes wear a disposable gown and goggles to protect the eyes.
    • KITCHEN/FOOD PREP AREA
      • Product supplied by MFF. Currently using SANIBET MULTI-RANGE manufactured by Becto Corporation LTD. Product is a pink liquid, mixes a pale pink colour (.5oz:24oz – less than one pump from the jug of concentrate ) and is provided in spray bottles, clearly labelled with the product information and the program name.
      • Product must be tested with a QUAT test strip and the reading must be at 200 – 400 ppm. *This product has a 90 second kill time, does not require a rinse and is food safe.
    • CARPET CLEANING
      • General cleaning – do not place cleaner in machine:
        • Product supplied through MFF: EN-CAP 3-IN-1 CARPET ENCAPSULATION DETERGENT
        • Mix as per directions in the supplied special sprayer, spray on carpet and leave for 15 minutes before removing with the Karcher Carpet Cleaner – do not allow sprayed on cleaner to dry. Work in small areas to avoid drying of sprayed on cleaner.
      • Heavy Duty Cleaning – do not place cleaner in machine:
        • Product supplied through MFF: Currently using BETCO® FIBREPRO® TLC PRESPRAY
        • Mix as per directions in the supplied special sprayer, spray on carpet and leave for 15 minutes before removing with the Karcher Carpet Cleaner – do not allow sprayed on cleaner to dry. Work in small areas to avoid drying of sprayed on cleaner.
  • STORAGE OF CLEANING AND DISINFECTING PRODUCTS
    • All products are to be kept in their original containers and clearly marked. Always follow expiry dates on products and clearly circle the expiry date on the original bottle with a black pen for easy reference.
    • Any products that require mixing are to be done so according to instructions and mixed into the containers provided by MFF.
    • ALL CLEANING AND DISINFECTING PRODUCTS ARE TO BE STORED AND KEPT OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES.

*Additional information: If disinfecting utensils with SANIBET – immerse utensils for at least two minutes and let the items dry. No rinse
required.

  • When using OXIVIR Tb wipes on food surfaces be sure to use plates (wet foods) or napkins (dry foods). If food is going to be placed directly on food surfaces, then a rinse with a clean cloth and potable water needs to happen.
  • Remember to check expiry dates daily.
