Protocol For The Use And Storage Of Cleaning And Disinfecting Products – September 2024

Only cleaning sanitizing and disinfecting products approved by Muskoka Family Focus and Children’s Place shall be used by our employees in all programs. MSDS/SDS sheets will be provided for the approved products and MUST be kept on site and available. All products must be in a product labelled bottle, with the date it was opened or mixed, program name and room. All cleaning products must be kept out of reach of children. Preference is for school age programs to keep them in their Licensing Bins or locked cupboards (bottom shelf not near food). All programs must have cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting products on site and use them often to ensure clean environment for the children and staff. You should also have a spray bottle labelled with Water for rinsing available.

Approved Products and instructions for use:

Cleaning:

  • Cleaning physically removes most germs, dirt, and impurities from objects and surfaces.
  • Soiled areas require cleaning before.

All Purpose cleaning product:

RMC Envirocare – Low foam all-purpose cleaner
  • GENERAL PURPOSE CLEANING BY MFF STAFF
  • General day-to-day cleaning of walls, floors and spills etc. Product supplied through MFF&CP. Use ALL PURPOSE CLEANER manufactured by Rochester Midland – mixed at program. Available at Admin Office.
  • Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when handling and mixing product. Product mixes to a green colour (1:32 dilution ratio).
  • Product is provided in spray bottles, clearly labelled with the product information, the expiry date and the program name.
  • Wash hands after use or general cleaning

Heavily Soiled or Heavy-Duty Cleaning– Product supplied through MFF&CP.

OXIVIR TB (1 minute spray)

  • Manufactured by Diversey INC. – product is premixed and is available at Administration Office or Child Care Centre’s.
  • Remove large chunks, food etc with paper towel into a plastic bag/garbage can.
  • Spray area generously and wipe.

Cleaning and Disinfecting Surfaces of Blood, Bodily Fluids and Solids:

  • Gloves should be worn. Remove excess blood, bodily fluid and or solids with paper towel and place into a garbage bag. Clean area by scrubbing.
  • Apply premixed product to surface and soak for 30 seconds, wipe dry. Discard gloves safely and wash hands. Then follow disinfecting instructions below.

 

 

DISINFECTING

  • Disinfecting kills remaining germs on surfaces. Killing germs can further lower the risk of spreading disease.
  • Disinfecting toys and equipment and when any bodily fluid is present.

General everyday disinfecting:

Disinfecting Product supplied through MFF&CP.

OXIVIR Tb (1 minute spray or 1 minute wipes)

  • manufactured by Diversey which comes premixed and available through MFF&CP at all programs.
  • Entire surface must be wet. This product a one minute contact/kill time and does NOT require a rinse for non-food contact surface, therefore making them efficient to use on surfaces for diapering and toileting.
  • Food contact surfaces or items that might go into a child’s mouth must be rinsed with water after it is disinfected with the OXIVIR Tb wipe or 1Minute Spray. Reminder to use a clean cloth or paper towel when rinsing surface.
  • Check expiry date on the container to ensure effectiveness.

 

OXIVIR TB WIPES

  • Product supplied by MFF&CP for diaper change table or mat is OXIVIR Tb wipes manufactured by Diversey.
  • If wipe continues to be wet, it may be used on multiple surfaces. The wipes have a one-minute contact/kill time and do not require a rinse for non-food contact surface, therefore making them efficient to use on surfaces for diapering and toileting.
  • Reminder surface must remain wet for 1 minute to effectively disinfect surfaces.
  • Food contact surfaces or items that might go into a child’s mouth must be rinsed with water and wiped with clean cloth or paper towel after it is disinfected with the OXIVIR Tb wipe.
  • If the change table or surface is soiled, it should first be cleaned with a wipe to remove feces and then disinfected using a new OXIVIR Tb wipe.
  • Check expiry date on the container to ensure effectiveness.
  • Always rinse Oxivir from food contact surfaces and toys that may go into a child’s mouth.

 

 

 

SANIBET MULTI-RANGE

  • Manufactured by Becto Corporation LTD. Product is a pink liquid, mixes a pale/clear pink colour and is provided in spray bottles, clearly labelled with the product information and the program name.
  • For Disinfecting this product must stay on the surface for 10 minutes. The whole surface must be sprayed and left wet for 10 minutes. Then wipe and left air dry. No rinse needed.

 

Disinfecting of bodily fluid spills or in an “Outbreak” situation:

  • Product supplied through MFF&CP.
  • OXIVIR TB 1 min manufactured by Diversey comes premixed
  • ALWAYS USE THIS PRODUCT TO DISINFECT ANY SPILLS OF FECES, VOMIT, BLOOD, URINE, ETC.
  • WEAR GLOVES FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION
  • Remove excess blood and fluids with paper towels and clean area first by applying spraying surface, soak 30 seconds and wipe dry.
  • Disinfect contaminated area by spraying the surface; allow to remain wet for 1 minute. Wipe surface dry.
  • If you think there is the possibility that there is going to be contact with your skin, eyes or clothes wear a disposable gown and goggles.

 

Sanitizing

  • Sanitizing reduces the number of germs on objects and surfaces to levels considered safe.
  • Sanitizing is done before eating and in the kitchen.

KITCHEN/FOOD PREP AREA/TABLES

Products supplied by MFF:

SANIBET MULTI-RANGE

  • Manufactured by Becto Corporation LTD. Product is a pink liquid, mixes a pale/clear pink colour and is provided in spray bottles, clearly labelled with the product information and the program name.
  • Mixing Sanibet- 2ml to 4.5 ml of Sanibet to 1 litre of water. Product must be tested with a QUAT test strip and the reading must be at 200 – 400 ppm. This should be recorded in the binder.
  • For Sanitizing hard surfaces: This product has a 90 second kill time, does not require a rinse and is food safe. Must stay wet on the surface for 90 sec then wiped and left to air dry.
  • For Disinfecting: This product must stay on the surface for 10 minutes. The whole surface must be sprayed and left wet for 10 minutes. Then wipe and left air dry. No rinse needed.
  • If Disinfecting utensils/dishes/hard surfaced toys with SANIBET – Clean dishes with soap and water free of solids, rinse and immerse utensils for at least two minutes and let the items dry. No rinse required.
  • Mixing instructions as per the Sanibet label: 18ml of Sanibet to 4 litres of water for disinfecting. 8ml to 4 litres of water for immersing dishes, utensils, hard surfaced toys. Test to 200 ppm

 

CARPET CLEANING

General cleaning product supplied through MFF&CP:

Bissell Clean and Protect

  • Mix as per directions (using marks on the inside of the formula cap, add 7oz of Bissell Clean and Protect formula to the tank. Add water to the tank until you reach the fill line.
  • Clean carpet and rinse and clean the machine after use.

STORAGE OF CLEANING AND DISINFECTING PRODUCTS

  • ALL CLEANING AND DISINFECTING PRODUCTS ARE TO BE STORED AND KEPT OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES.
  • All products are to be kept in their original containers and clearly marked.
  • If you are using a mixed product (Sanibet) the bottle must have the proper label and expiry date and room name. No more than 28 days from mixing.
  • Always follow expiry dates on products and clearly circle or highlight in some manner, the expiry date on the original bottle with a black pen for easy reference.
  • Any products that require mixing are to be done according to instructions and mixed into the containers labelled and provided by MFF&CP.
